バイオリンの日——日本人の手で生まれた、初めての西洋楽器
1880年（明治13年）8月28日、東京の楽器職人松永定次郎氏が、日本人の手による初めてのバイオリンを完成させました。
西洋音楽が本格的に日本へ流入し始めたばかりの明治時代、見よう見まねで西洋楽器の製作に挑んだ職人たちの技術と情熱には、頭が下がるものがあります。この一挺のバイオリンから、日本のクラシック音楽や楽器製作の歴史が大きく動き出したと言えるかもしれませんね。
テレビCMの日＆気象予報士の日
1953年8月28日、日本テレビ放送網が、日本初となる民間テレビ放送を開始しました。同時にテレビCMも始まり、記念すべき第1号は服部時計店（現・セイコー）のCMだったそうです。
また1994年8月28日には、第1回気象予報士国家試験が実施されました。それまで天気予報は気象庁の予報官だけが行えるものでしたが、この制度の開始によって、民間でも気象予報業務が可能に。今、私たちがテレビやアプリで毎日目にする「気象予報士」という仕事は、この日から始まったんですね。

Violin Day — The First Western Instrument Crafted by Japanese Hands
On August 28, 1880 (Meiji 13), Tokyo instrument craftsman Matsunaga Sadajirō completed the first violin ever made by Japanese hands.
In the Meiji era, when Western music was only just beginning to make its way into Japan, there’s something genuinely admirable about the skill and passion of craftsmen who took on the challenge of building Western instruments largely through trial, observation, and imitation. It might be fair to say that this single violin set into motion the history of classical music and instrument-making in Japan.
TV Commercial Day & Weather Forecaster Day
On August 28, 1953, Nippon Television Network began Japan’s first commercial television broadcast. TV commercials began at the very same time, and the very first one is said to have been an advertisement for Hattori Watch Shop (now Seiko).
Also on August 28, 1994, Japan held its first-ever national certification exam for weather forecasters. Until then, weather forecasting could only be conducted by official forecasters at the Japan Meteorological Agency, but this new system opened the door for private-sector weather forecasting as well. The job of “weather forecaster” — a familiar face on TV and apps in our daily lives today — traces its origin to this very day.
