1885年4月18日、日本で専売特許条例（現在の特許法の前身）が公布されました。これを記念して、4月18日は「発明の日」に制定されています。

日本の特許第一号は「錆止め塗料」。出願者は堀田瑞松ほった ずいしょうという人物で、1885年の公布から間もなく取得されました。発明の歴史はそこから始まり、今や日本は世界有数の特許大国です。

On April 18, 1885, Japan promulgated the Patent Monopoly Ordinance — the precursor to modern patent law. In commemoration of this event, April 18th has been designated “Invention Day” in Japan.

Japan’s very first patent was granted for a rust-prevention paint. The applicant was a man named Hotta Zuisho, and he received the patent shortly after the ordinance came into effect in 1885. The history of invention began there, and today Japan stands as one of the world’s leading patent powerhouses.

青色LEDの中村修二氏、カセットテープ（松下電器）、カラオケ（井上大佑）、インスタントラーメン（安藤百福）—日本人が生み出した発明は、世界の日常を変えてきました。

特にインスタントラーメンは、今や世界の年間消費量が1,000億食を超えるとも言われるモンスター商品。「チキンラーメン」誕生から約70年、今もその発明の火は燃え続けています。

Shuji Nakamura’s blue LED, the cassette tape (Matsushita Electric), karaoke (Daisuke Inoue), instant ramen (Momofuku Ando) — inventions created by Japanese people have transformed everyday life around the world.

Instant ramen in particular has become a monster product, with annual global consumption now said to exceed 100 billion servings. Nearly 70 years since the birth of “Chikin Ramen,” the flame of that invention still burns bright.

実はこの記念館は2つあります：

  • 神奈川：カップヌードルミュージアム 横浜

👉 内容は似ていますが、展示や体験の規模が少し違います

There are actually two of these museums:

  • Osaka: Instant Ramen Invention Museum
  • Kanagawa: Cup Noodles Museum Yokohama

もう１０年以上前になりますが、息子がまだ小学生低学年の頃、横浜のカップヌードルミュージアムに訪れたことがあります。息子を喜ばせるために連れて行ったのですが、世界中のカップヌードルの展示とかあって、大人もだいぶ楽しめた記憶があります。

自分で作れるカップ麺も楽しかったですよ。

It’s been over ten years now, but back when my son was still in the lower grades of elementary school, we visited the Cup Noodles Museum in Yokohama. I took him there to make him happy — but with exhibits showcasing cup noodles from around the world and more, I remember adults having a great time too.

Making your own cup of instant ramen was a lot of fun as well. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend checking it out.
