Ichiro Breaks a Japanese Professional Baseball Record (September 14, 1994)
September 14th is also the day that Ichiro, then playing for the Orix Blue Wave, broke the Japanese record for most hits in a season, a record that had stood for 44 years. The previous record was 191 hits, set by Fumio Fujimura in 1950, and Ichiro rewrote that record on this day. He went on to keep racking up hits, finally closing out the season with an unprecedented 210 hits in the season’s final game on October 9th of that same year.
