Southern All Stars — Their Debut Day
On June 25, 1978, Southern All Stars made their debut with the single “Katte ni Sindbad.”
At the time, their distinctive sound and Keisuke Kuwata’s wildly unconventional vocal style had many people wondering, “Will this actually sell?” Yet the band went on to become one of the defining acts in Japanese music history, producing generation-spanning classics such as “Manatsu no Kajitsu,” “TSUNAMI,” and “Ya Ya (Ano Jidai wo Wasurenai).”

The Imperial Viewing Game
June 25, 1959, saw one of the most storied moments in Japanese professional baseball history — the “Tenran Jiai” (Imperial Viewing Game).
Emperor Showa and Empress Kojun attended the Giants vs. Tigers game at Korakuen Stadium. With the score tied 4–4 heading into the bottom of the ninth, Giants legend Shigeo Nagashima launched a walk-off home run off Tigers pitcher Minoru Murayama, sending the entire stadium into an uproar.
Broadcast across television and radio to a nation on the edge of its seat, this moment is still remembered today as one of the most dramatic hits in professional baseball history.
